When I heard that Summerlin was having a Macy's Thanksgiving Day style parade for the fourth of July I knew we just had to check it out. To top it off this fourth of July had the perfect parade weather: cloudy and not so dang hot!!
The parade started at 9am and Princess Tenley Bear slept in until 8:30 so we didn't get to the parade until around 10ish. We got a primo parking spot due to Ed cutting off a lady and weaseling our big Jeep into the spot, walked just seconds to the parade, and got a spot right under a nice big tree.
Tenley had the best view from her Daddy's shoulders:
First up were the Star Wars - Stormtroopers:
The Death Star:
R2D2:
Indian Dancers:
Kid Indian Dancers:
Band:
Hey Reb:
Toy Story Float:
Hello Kitty:
Then, Tenley's favorite float...
Mickey & Minnie Mouse!!
There were a lot more floats and balloons, but let's be honest... it was no Macy's!! We sure had fun watching all the people go by though and Tenley had fun clapping for everyone:
She even had fun crawling around in the grass:
After the parade we went to the Gerfy's and Tenley played outside in the rain for the first time ever:
We had fun relaxing by the jacuzzi and chit chatting on the patio while it rained. Frannie also brought her dog, Lola, who is really fond of Tenley and they had a ball playing together.
Once the weather cleared up we got to go swimming, but Lola made sure that Ed was very careful with her best friend:
It was finally time for fireworks and Tenley wasn't too sure about them...
We started off with the small things, like snakes (my fav), and Tenley watched as they grew:
Then, we moved onto Frannie's favorite - sparklers (T liked those, too!):
Tenley was good with ones that didn't make noises, but cried when we lit ones that popped. She liked to just watch ones like this:
I think it was because she was sooo sleepy:
We planned on going to Mission Hills Park to watch the fireworks, but since she cried at the sound of our lil' fireworks we decided it would be a bust and headed home... On the way home Ed and I saw so many big fireworks in our neighborhood and couldn't help but get excited and want to at least try to take her to see some fireworks. I mean it was her first fourth of July after all! Since we live right by Mission Hills Park we decided to walk close to the park to avoid parking and some of the noise and it ended up being perfect. We were able to see the fireworks and still hear all the BOOMS!!
Even though she was beyond sleepy, Tenley didn't mind these booms and kept pointing at the fireworks:
(We had SO much fun!!)
Tenley experienced her first parade, played in the rain for the first time, french kissed a puppy for the first time AND watched fireworks for the first time. We got to spend the day with some awesome people and had so much fun in the process. I'd say Tenley Bear had a great first fourth of July!!
HOPE EVERYONE HAD A SUPER DOOPER 4TH OF JULY!!
